‘Your USI was located’ notification
If you receive an automated email or SMS/text message from 'email@example.com' that 'Your USI was located', it means that a training organisation needed to find your USI number for the VET training course you have just enrolled in or completed.
Before a training organisation can issue a qualification they must ‘verify’ your USI in the USI Registry System to ensure that it is your USI by checking that the information you have given at enrolment matches your USI account.
If you have not provided your USI or it is incorrect and does not verify, the training organisation will need to use the 'Existing USI Search' in the USI Registry System or the 'Locate USI' function in the training organisation's Student Management System. An important privacy assurance feature of this function is the automated notification sent to you. This notification includes the relevant RTO number and ‘trading’ name as registered on training.gov.au.
Training organisations must have your permission before they use the ‘Existing USI Search/Locate USI’ function. This function only allows a training organisation to see your USI number. No personal or contact details can be seen by the training organisation.
The ‘trading’ name included in the notification may be different to the name used by your training organisation. Your training organisation should tell you if their trading name is different to their legal name or display name.
