Privacy and your USI

'Your USI was located' notification

If your training organisation has been given your USI, you will receive an automated email or SMS/text message from 'noreply@usi.gov.au' alerting you that your USI has been searched and located. This normally happens when you enrol in a new training course.

The organisation has not been given access to your account or your personal or contact details.

A training organisation should only search for your USI with your permission.

Please report to us any privacy concerns with your USI account.

Read more about the reasons we might contact you.

Our Privacy Policy explains how:

  • to access and correct personal information
  • to make a breach of privacy complaint

A student can also make a complaint to the Australian Information Commissioner about an interference with privacy pursuant to the Privacy Act 1988. This includes the misuses or interference of, or unauthorised collection, use, access, modification or disclosure of USIs.

Education or training provider applying for USI on your behalf

An education or training provider applying for a USI on your behalf is required to give you a Privacy Notice explaining how your personal information will be used. This is explained further in the Student Identifiers Registrar’s terms and conditions

If you have authorised a training provider to create a USI on your behalf, they are required by law to destroy your personal information as soon as possible after the USI application.
