USI and myGov

myGov is a simple and secure way to access government services online in one place.

When you link your USI account to your myGov account, you can:

  • log in directly
  • view your USI
  • download your USI vocational education and training (VET) transcript
  • update your details.

You must have an active USI account to link to myGov. Activating your USI account means you set up a password and security/check questions.

It is recommended you use the same verifiable identification document to create your USI and myGov account. Higher education students seeking financial assistance should ensure their personal details on the USI, Tax File Number and myGov account match.

If you don’t have a myGov account, you can still create your USI or find your USI.

Visit myGov to sign in or create an account and link your USI.

You can link your USI to myGov through the myGov website or the myGov online application.

  1. Sign in to myGov, you can sign in using one of the following:
    1. myGov sign in details
    2. a passkey
    3. Digital ID.
  2. Select ‘View and link services’.
  3. Select ‘Link’ on the Unique Student Identifier tile.
  4. You can use either your USI or your personal details to link your USI to myGov. If you know your USI, select ‘I know my USI’. To use your personal details, select I don’t know my USI.
  5. Follow the prompts to enter the details of your USI.
  6. Once your USI has been identified, a 6-digit code will be sent to the mobile phone or email address on your USI account.
  7. Enter the code and select ‘Next’ to finish linking your USI to myGov.

  2. Select ‘Services’.
  3. Select ‘+ icon’ at the top of the screen.
  4. Select ‘Unique Student Identifier (USI)’.
  5. You can use either your USI or your personal details to link your USI to myGov. If you know your USI, select ‘I know my USI’. To use your personal details, select ‘I don’t know my USI’.
  6. Follow the prompts to enter the details of your USI.
  7. Once your USI has been identified, a 6-digit code will be sent to the mobile phone and/or email address on your USI account.
  8. Enter the code and select ‘Next’ to finish linking your USI to myGov.

Please be aware of fake websites or apps that look like myGov. Access myGov by typing in ‘my.gov.au’ into your internet browser or use the official Australian Government myGov app.
